Swaying trees in the distance, blue skies and birds chirping, all of these are examples of setting. Setting can create the mood and tone of characters in a story. In the story Hills Like White Elephants, the story starts out with our two characters, Jig and the American, also referred to as the man, on a train overlooking mountains. â€Å"The girl was looking off at the line of hills. They were white in the sun and the country was brown and dry† (Hemingway). In the case of this short story, the hills provided Jig something to take her mind off of the grueling conversation she was having with the Man. As said by a critic, â€Å"the story itself is comprised almost entirely of dialogue. Although there is a situation, there is no plot† (Henningfield). This characteristic makes the story harder to identify. As the couple reached the station they sat down on a bench and continued to talk. â€Å"The girl stood up and walked to the end of the station, looking at f ields of grain and trees along the banks of the Ebro† (Hemingway). My Superhero If I were a superhero, I would want to be like super woman. She can do almost anything she wants. I could fly, shoot laser beams through my eyes, have super strength, invisibility, and have super speed. My name would be The Bullet. [ (Your Super Hero Name) ] If I were a superhero, my powers would be flying, strength, laser eyes, invisibility, super strength, and super speed because then I could get places faster, be stronger, melt things with my eyes, and secretly be places without anyone else knowing. [ (Superpowers) ] If I were a superhero, I would be able to do almost anything I wanted without anybody having a say in it.I could cook my own meals with my laser beam eyes. I could save loads of money on gas by flying or running everywhere. I would also be super fit due to running or flying everywhere. Along with having super strength I would be able to also be a hero to anyone that needed help lifting things, or getting their kittens out of the tree, or any need anyone n eeded I could help them. If I was a superhero and my name was The Bullet, my outfit would be jeans and a t-shirt, because they are super comfortable and are casual. [ (Glamour Magazine) ] My t-shirt would be pink because my favorite color is pink.And my shoes would be running tennis shoes because they are my favorite to wear and most comfortable. If I was a superhero and my name was The Bullet, I would look casual to not stand out so badly in a crowd. The Must Haves of a Successful Marriage Throughout the novel Pride and Prejudice, written by Jane Austen, there are many notable and prominent themes that come up. Out of all of these striking themes, marriage is a topic that comes up many, many times. Compared to the 21st century, when marriage is not as important, the 19th century placed great importance on marriage. Many women married for the sole purpose of money, wealth, and power, while some had married for love and mutual affection. Some women already have some form of inheritance, but still get married just to gain a higher social status, or for companionship. Even though these reasons for marrying are not the best reasons in today’s society, these were the factors that made a successful marriage during Austen’s time. So, according to Pride and Prejudice, a successful marriage consists of a substantial fortune from either side of the marriage, mutual affection, and a good dose of companionship and compatibility. The first ingredient of a successful marriage, according to the novel, is a sound financial foundation. An example of this form of marriage is when Charlotte says â€Å"yes† to Mr. Collins’ proposal.
